About Captain Somkiat Kraithip
Born on May 14th, 1948, Captain Somkiat Kraithip has been cruising the friendly skies of Thailand in helicopters since 1972, where he commenced his helicopter flying career through transporting inventory to border police officials in Thailand. Since then, he has flown over 8,250 flying hours on various helicopters such as the Hiller E-4 helicopter, KH-4 (Kawasaki) helicopter, Bell 204B helicopter, Bell 205 helicopter, Bell 205 A-1 helicopter, Bell 212 helicopter, Bell 412 helicopter, Bell 430 helicopter, Bell 407 helicopter, BK 117B-1 helicopter, Robinson R22 helicopter, Enstrom 480 helicopter, EC-135 helicopter, and the EC-130 helicopter.
Captain Kraithip's helicopter flying career has been decorated with various adventures and accomplishments, including a scholarship from DEA, the opportunity to meet many VIPs in Thailand, and the chance to participate in exciting projects in Bangkok and around Thailand. He has flown around VIPs such as the Princess Mother of Thailand, Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn, Her Royal Highness Princess Kalayaniwattan, Princess Phetcharat, the daughter of King Rama VII, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, Former PM Chuan Leekphai, and Former PM Banhaarn Silpaacha, as well as other ministers. Another great accomplishment in Captain Kraithip's helicopter flying career was the 10-year headwater development, a royal project, in which he participated in part of the King’s visit to remote areas, picking up injured border police officials, and fighting against the drug trade in Northern Thailand.
Adventure is key, but safety is essential for both the passengers and Captain Kraithip when in a helicopter, it gives him great pride when the flights are flown with “the highest possible level of flight safety. " He ensures that the helicopters are all high performance helicopters, built with an internal aerial navigation system, which provides more accurate aviation and therefore a higher level of safety for the passengers in the helicopters.
